External QR Scanner Support

ℹ️ Originally planned for v1.1.6, this enhancement shipped as part of the 1.1.7 maintenance release.

Overview​

Backyard Hunt now supports clue scanning via external QR scanner apps and system camera scanners. When the app is in game mode and you have an ongoing hunt, scanning a Backyard Hunt QR link with an external app will deep-link into Backyard Hunt and redeem the clue correctly.

  • Works with iOS system QR scanner and Android camera/scanner apps
  • Requires Backyard Hunt to be installed
  • App must be in game mode with an active hunt
  • External QR link opens the app and redeems the matching clue

Why this change​

We received reports that QR codes "didn't scan". The app always scanned correctly inside Backyard Hunt; however, external scanners weren't supported before. As of v1.1.7, external scanners are recognized and routed properly into the app to redeem clues.
