Multiplayer Games
What Multiplayer Games Are
Multiplayer lets one person host a hunt and invite other players to join the same session.
Everyone plays the same hunt, but each player has their own progress and finish time. The app keeps everyone connected through a shared lobby and, if enabled, a live leaderboard.
How To Start A Multiplayer Game
- Open one of your hunts.
- Tap the share option.
- Turn on multiplayer.
- Choose how many players can join and any optional timing rules.
- Share the invite link or QR code with other players.
The host then waits in the multiplayer lobby for players to join.
How Players Join
Players can join by:
- opening the invite link
- scanning the QR code
After joining, they go into the multiplayer lobby instead of starting the hunt immediately.
What Happens In The Lobby
The lobby is the waiting room before the game starts.
It shows:
- the hunt name
- how many players have joined
- whether the game starts automatically or must be started by the host
- any scheduled start time
- any end time or time limit
The host can share the invite again and, depending on the session settings, start the game manually.
Players can see the lobby status and wait for the game to begin.
How Game Start Works
A multiplayer game can start in different ways depending on how the host configured it.
Automatic start
If the host sets a minimum player count, the game can start automatically once that number of players has joined.
Example:
- if minimum players is
2, the game becomes ready to start once 2 players have joined
Manual host start
If the host does not set a minimum player count, the host starts the game manually.
Scheduled start
If the host sets a future start time, the game starts at that time once the session meets its join conditions.
Maximum Players
The host can also set a maximum player count.
If a maximum is set:
- players can join until that limit is reached
- after that, no more players can join that session
During The Game
Once the multiplayer session starts:
- each player moves from the lobby into gameplay
- each player works through their own copy of the hunt
- progress and finish times are tracked separately for each player
If leaderboard display is enabled, players can compare progress or results as configured by the host.
Leaving A Multiplayer Game
Players can leave a multiplayer session before the game starts.
If they leave while the session is still waiting:
- they are removed from the lobby
- the host sees the player count update
Hosts do not leave a session in the same way. If needed, the host cancels the session instead.
When A Multiplayer Game Ends
A multiplayer session ends after all participating players have either:
- finished the hunt
- or stopped playing
At that point, the session is considered complete.
